This post has spoilers, it’s not my fault if you get spoiled! I warned you!
So I went to watch Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skulls on Friday. All I’ve got to say is that it was good but it’s definitely no classic, I think that everyone knew this when Indy 4 was first announced.
Aliens. I knew going in that the movie would have aliens because someone accidentally spoiled it for me before I got to watch it. Who’s idea was it to put aliens in the freaken movie!? In my opinion, they didn’t pull it off very well. I do understand that this Indy movie is set in the ’50s so it’s making fun of ’50s things just as the old ones did for movies from the ’30s. Plus, one of the theories about the crystal skulls are that aliens did give us the skulls, but obviously this was debunked when people found out all the skulls, but one, were fakes.
A lot of people have been saying “Well, why is it harder to believe there are ALIENS in the movie, but not God(s)!?” It’s not the fact that there can be demons and not aliens in the movie, but both the supernatural and extraterrestrial belong in their own genre’s. From the first movie, it was quite obvious the the Indiana Jones movies belonged in the supernatural category. I mean, when was the last time you saw a movie have both Sci Fi in it and supernatural beings? When was the last time you saw an alien pray to God? When was the last time you saw something like that in a movie and it did not flop? I’m not saying the two genres can’t be used together (Ultraviolet and X-Files, anyone?), it’s just that the Indiana Jones movies stayed strictly away from anything science fiction until the fourth movie! It just seems so out of place.
With that being said, I have read quite a few stories where the supernatural and science fiction have been used together. The Tomb Raider 3 game showed aliens when she broke into Area 51! In the current Wonder Woman series, the first story arc dealt with Greek mythology and the birth of Diana on her home island. The story arc immediately following it dealt with aliens and both story lines were very good!
Other than the aliens thing, I’m a little disappointed that Marion didn’t punch Indiana like she did in the first film! He got her pregnant and left her a week before the wedding and she doesn’t punch him!?!? WTF? She didn’t even punch any bad guys, even so, I still loved seeing her again.
I’m also disappointed that Mutt ended up being Indy’s son! God, that was so predictable, I was hoping that he wouldn’t be his son, that somehow cheapened the movie for me. I do think that everyone was awesome in the movie though! The acting was great!
Other than those flaws, I still like the movie very much! I just hope that the rumors that there will be a fifth movie aren’t true. Another Indiana Jones movie is very un-needed. I also herd Shia could be the lead character.
Uh, no.
Indiana Jones is not like James Bond, where you can just replace the lead actor (and in this case, the character too) with someone else! I definitely won’t watch it in theaters if it does happen. Plus, I know a lot of fans will be pissed. It’ll also be a slap on the face to Harrison Ford.
Anyways, even though I do like the new Indiana Jones movie, I see the movie as an alternate “what if” movie more than an official continuation. Even though it is, I’ll just see it as non-canonical.

I watched Cloverfield a couple of days ago.Wow, that movie was disappointing! All that hype for an average monster movie!?
A lot of things in the movie did annoy me, but most of those things I could forgive like:
- The monster is a sea monster, yet it has legs as if it could climb trees.
- No matter how dangerous something becomes, the guy keeps filming.
- No one noticed the satellite fall into the ocean near a beach.
What did ruin the movie for me were the characters. Seriously, who stands around saying ” OH MY GOD WHAT DID THAT!?” when the Statue of Liberty’s head fell off and a whole bunch of buildings were collapsing. If that was me, I wouldn’t be standing around asking, I’d be running like hell! I wouldn’t stand around to find out.
Also, who the hell calls their boyfriend when they’re gravely injured? Plus, how in the world can the girlfriend walk/run a few hours after having a large pole pulled out of her!?
Some other things that ruined the film for me was the fact that everyone decided to follow him back to into the city! What? Not even one person decided not to follow him? If that was my best friend, I’d try to convince him/her to not go back, if that didn’t work, I’d let him/her be a moron and run to his/her doom.
If you want to make a monster movie that seems realistic, at least try not to make the characters total morons!
